The new school year begins on August 17, 2016!! 1st hour begins at 8:09am with breakfast beginning at 7:40am. Will you be ready? I remember as a student in Sikeston, MO the anticipation of starting a new school year. Sleep, the night before the first day, was often hard to come by. As I reflect back upon those experiences, I realize the reason I was "sleep deprived" those first few days was due to my change in routine. During the summer months, it was stay up late, sleep in and then play outside all afternoon/evening! Those were great times...but, the sudden change of having to get up at 6:45am was a "shock to my system".
Parents~~to help best prepare your child for the new school, re-establish their "routine" now. Studies show that to be functioning at top level, students in middle school need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep each night. Begin now the habit of sleeping for 8 hours and getting up at the time the child will need to be up for school. By establishing this pattern of behavior now, it will make the transition of going to school that much easier. Breakfast is the "fuel" to jump start the brain for optimal learning. Students are encouraged to eat breakfast daily. Remember, at Salem Middle School ALL STUDENTS EAT FOR FREE--both breakfast and lunch. Preparation is the key to success...begin now by getting back to the routine of going to school. We'll see you on August 17th! Comments are closed.
